Revitalizing an Existing Port for the Early Development of SAN
Pelabuhan Carik, strategically positioned within the wider development area of Strategic Agro Nexus (SAN), is being positioned as a potential Port 0 — an early-stage port and logistics facility designed to support the initial development and activation of the SAN economic ecosystem.
The strategy is to leverage existing port infrastructure while preparing for the development of SAN Port as the long-term strategic gateway of the region.
Strategic Role
Carik Port is envisioned to provide an early logistics gateway connecting:
Agriculture → Logistics → Port → Trade → Industrial Development
Its potential role includes supporting the movement of agricultural commodities, construction materials, equipment, and other logistics requirements associated with the early development of SAN.
Revitalization Strategy
SAN’s approach is to pursue the long-term utilization or lease of Carik Port, subject to the applicable government approval and legal framework.
Following the establishment of the appropriate utilization rights, SKS intends to evaluate and develop a phased revitalization program covering:
- Port facility improvement
- Logistics and cargo handling facilities
- Supporting infrastructure
- Operational facilities
- Equipment and port services
- Connectivity with the developing SAN ecosystem
The revitalization program will be developed based on technical studies, regulatory requirements, investment feasibility, and the operational needs of the area.
Port 0 → SAN Port
Carik Port is not intended to replace SAN Port.
Instead, the strategic concept is:
CARIK PORT / PORT 0
Early-stage logistics and port facility
↓
SAN DEVELOPMENT
Initial economic and infrastructure activation
↓
SAN PORT
Long-term strategic port gateway
↓
INTEGRATED SAN ECONOMIC ECOSYSTEM
This phased approach is designed to allow economic activity and supporting infrastructure to develop progressively while the larger SAN Port is being prepared.
Economic Connectivity
Port 0 is intended to support the broader SAN platform by creating an early connection between land, logistics, production, and markets.
The long-term ecosystem is designed around:
Land Development
→ Agro-Industrial Production
→ Processing & Downstream Industry
→ Logistics
→ Port Infrastructure
→ Energy & LNG
→ Regional & International Trade
Investment Opportunity
The revitalization of Carik Port may create opportunities for strategic partners and investors in:
- Port infrastructure
- Logistics
- Cargo handling
- Warehousing
- Equipment
- Agro-logistics
- Industrial supply chains
- Supporting infrastructure
- Port-related services
Investment structures will be evaluated based on the applicable legal framework, project feasibility, government approvals, and the long-term utilization structure.
Strategic Vision
Carik Port / Port 0 represents an important early activation component of the SAN development strategy.
By connecting existing infrastructure with future investment and economic development, SAN aims to establish a phased pathway from:
Existing Port → Early Logistics Gateway → SAN Port → Integrated Economic Hub
The ultimate objective is to create a connected infrastructure platform supporting agriculture, industry, logistics, energy, trade, and investment across the SAN ecosystem.
Current Status
